The hearing on a writ petition filed against the attorney general's decision to amend charges of money laundering and organized crime against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane and other defendants has been postponed.
The petition was scheduled for a hearing on Thursday before a full bench comprising Justices Abdul Aziz Musalman, Shreekanta Paudel, and Shanti Singh Thapa. However, the hearing was postponed at the request of the defendants' side.
Previously, the hearing had been scheduled for April 23, but it was postponed at the request of the attorney general.
On March 29, a bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Abdul Aziz Musalman had ordered the case to be presented before a full bench for hearing, stating that eight specific questions required legal interpretation. A full bench consists of three or more justices.
On January 14, then-attorney general Sabita Bhandari had decided to amend the charges related to money laundering and organized crime against Lamichhane. Two days later, citing "correction of an error," a clearance was given to amend the charges of money laundering and organized crime against all defendants in the case.
This decision included the amendment of charges against all other defendants, including the absconding GB Rai. Following the attorney general’s decision, three writ petitions were filed at the Supreme Court against it.
