The faction led by Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) General Secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana organized a gathering in Kathmandu on Sunday.
The assembly urged the party to form a general convention organizing committee headed by an impartial individual.
Currently, Rajendra Lingden serves as the chairman, having defeated Kamal Thapa in the 2021 general convention.
The central executive committee meeting held on November 27 had extended the terms of all working committees by six months.
With two months remaining until that extension expires, the Rana-led faction has also demanded that a date be fixed soon for the general convention.
General Secretary Rana and his supporters wrote to Chairman Lingden on Sunday, demanding that the general convention date be set within one week.
They have called for the formation of a general convention organizing committee under an impartial coordinator to ensure the event is held in a "balanced and credible environment."
Rana’s faction appears reluctant to head into the general convention under Chairman Lingden's leadership.
Furthermore, they have demanded the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate disciplinary violations and present its findings during the general convention.
Lately, the RPP leadership has also faced criticism regarding its decision to contest the election for deputy speaker.
Despite having only five lawmakers in the House of Representatives, the party fielded Saraswati Lama for the post. She received only five votes.
Meanwhile, RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha said that a central executive committee meeting has been called for April 29.
According to Shrestha, the meeting will discuss the party's strategy in the changed context following the election, review election performances, plan for revitalization of the party, set the date for the central working committee meeting, and discuss the party’s upcoming programs.
