Ruby Kumari Thakur, the 25-year-old candidate from the Shram Sanskriti Party, has been elected as the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.
The election for deputy speaker was held on Friday, with 256 lawmakers present in the House.
Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal announced that Thakur secured 229 votes in her favor. He further noted that 5 votes were cast against her, while 22 members remained neutral.
Thakur received support from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Nepali Congress (NC), Nepali Communist Party (NCP), and her own Shram Sanskriti Party.
Saraswati Lama of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) was also a candidate for the position. However, the proposal to elect Lama as deputy speaker received only 5 votes. The RPP has five lawmakers in the House.
Additionally, 215 votes were cast against Lama’s candidacy, while 37 lawmakers opted not to vote. Lawmakers from the CPN-UML and the NCP remained neutral during this round of voting.
