The Supreme Court has ordered the retrieval of relevant documents regarding the habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Nepali Congress leader and former energy minister Deepak Khadka.
On Wednesday, a bench comprising Justices Mahesh Sharma Paudel and Sunil Kumar Pokharel scheduled the hearing on the petition for Friday, April 10.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has sought a written response from the Kathmandu District Court.
Based on the written response from the Department of Money Laundering Investigation, Khadka’s detention period was extended by the Kathmandu District Court.
The Supreme Court has ordered the district court to submit a written explanation regarding the circumstances of this extension by 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Furthermore, since the documents regarding the second extension of his remand and additional investigative records were not presented, the court has directed that they be summoned through the Office of the Attorney General.
The court has also ordered a correspondence to ensure that files from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), which have not yet been received, be presented on the day of the hearing.
A team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police had arrested Khadka on March 29.
