Police have been granted permission to keep former energy minister Deepak Khadka in custody for seven days for investigation in a money laundering case.
The Kathmandu District Court on Sunday granted permission to detain him for seven days, according to the court’s information officer Deepak Kumar Shrestha.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested Khadka on Sunday morning for investigation, and has already begun recording his statement.
“Although the statement recording of Deepak Khadka began today, there are still pending investigation-related tasks such as collecting evidence against him and recording further statements. Therefore, the Department of Money Laundering Investigation had requested permission to keep the defendant in custody for that purpose. As the request appeared reasonable, the court has granted permission to detain Deepak Khadka for seven days, effective from Sunday, in order to complete the aforementioned tasks,” the court order states.
The investigation against Khadka has been initiated in connection with burnt banknotes found at his residence on September 9 last year.
