The House of Representatives meeting has been postponed until further notice.
Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal had initially adjourned Wednesday’s meeting, scheduling the next session for August 27 at 1 p.m. However, shortly afterward, a notice was issued postponing the meeting indefinitely.
According to the notice issued by Padma Prasad Pandey, secretary-general of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the meeting was postponed because, given the situation caused by the floods and landslides, members of Parliament, along with the government, need to be involved in relief and rescue operations.
The next meeting will be held only after a new notice is published.
During Wednesday’s session, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane urged lawmakers to focus on relief and rescue efforts without seeking VIP security and privileges.
“VIP movements sometimes create an additional challenge for security personnel. Except when absolutely necessary, I will not go to the field; instead, my role will be to help the government work effectively,” he said. “But if I have to go somewhere for any reason, there is no need to worry about providing any kind of VIP movement, security or anything else. Security personnel do not need to worry about such arrangements even when lawmakers from my party go [to the field]. They do not need to pay attention to us anywhere.”
