A suspicious object was found in a vehicle carrying a candidate of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) during a security check at Badhaniyar Chowk in Parsagadhi Municipality-3, Parsa.
According to police, the object was discovered during a routine inspection at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. The vehicle was carrying Manoj Kumar Chaudhary, the NCP candidate for Parsa Constituency No. 2.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Bahadur Basnet, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Parsa, said that a suspicious object was found in the trunk of the vehicle (registration number Ba 10 Cha 1250) used by Chaudhary. The object was kept inside a tin box wrapped in brown tape, with black and red wires protruding from it.
Police detained Chaudhary and three others who were in the vehicle that night.
According to police, Satya Narayan Das, former mayoral candidate for Parsagadhi Municipality, and Suraj Karki were also in the vehicle.
The driver has been identified as Sheikh Munna Ansari, a resident of Chhapkaiya, Birgunj.
According to Brijlal Paswan, a central member of the NCP, the vehicle carrying Chaudhary was stopped by police for inspection at Badhaniyar Chowk while they were touring the area to celebrate Holi and meet party workers.
After spotting a suspicious object resembling a bomb inside the vehicle, police took them into custody along with the vehicle.
They were brought to the District Police Office, Parsa, the same night.
Paswan was traveling behind Chaudhary in another vehicle.
Police said that the vehicle was moved to a secure location overnight.
On Wednesday morning, a bomb disposal team from the Nepal Army arrived at the scene. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to Superintendent of Police Sudeep Raj Pathak, chief of the District Police Office, Parsa.
