It has been confirmed that the Nepali national killed in an incident while attempting to neutralize a drone at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), was Diwas Shrestha of Gorkha.
The 29-year-old Shrestha was working as a security guard at Middle East company. The Nepali Embassy in Abu Dhabi has expressed deep sorrow over his death.
The embassy stated that once the situation becomes favorable, Shrestha’s body will be repatriated to Nepal as soon as possible.
Three people were killed in the Iranian attack in the UAE, including one Bangladeshi and one Pakistani national.
The embassy has urged all Nepali citizens in the UAE to exercise restraint and remain in safe locations in this sensitive situation.
It has also requested everyone to fully comply with all security protocols issued by the UAE government.
According to the UAE’s Ministry of Defense, Iran has fired 165 ballistic missiles at the UAE since the attacks began.
Of these, 152 were intercepted and destroyed, while 13 fell into the sea.
On the second day alone, 20 ballistic missiles were reportedly intercepted in the morning and eight fell into the sea.
The ministry said that two cruise missiles were also destroyed by the UAE’s air defense system.
Since the attacks began, Iran has launched a total of 541 drone strikes. Of these, 506 were destroyed, while 35 fell within the country causing physical damage, the ministry said.
It was reported that 21 drones struck civilian structures.
