The Nepali Congress faction led by former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba has announced a separate general convention.
A meeting of the 15th general convention preparation committee, coordinated by former general secretary Shashank Koirala, held Thursday in Chundevi, announced the schedule for a separate general convention.
The Nepali Congress establishment is scheduled to hold ward-level conventions on September 9, followed by conventions at various levels, culminating in the 15th general convention from October 2 to 5.
However, the Deuba faction has decided not to participate in that general convention.
Instead, it has decided to hold ward and other lower-level conventions beginning October 1, and its central general convention from December 7 to 9.
The Chundevi meeting also authorized Shashank Koirala to form an election committee, active membership review and management committee, statute amendment committee, and disciplinary committee.
According to a statement issued by Deepak Prasad Kuikel, coordinator of the secretariat coordination committee, Koirala was also given the authority to form ad hoc committees for the party's sister organizations, including the Nepal Students' Union (NSU) and Nepal Tarun Dal.
The meeting also decided to form district convention preparation committees by September 10. For this purpose, central representatives will be deployed to all 77 districts.
The faction plans to distribute new active memberships by September 25. It has decided to grant active membership to those who participated in the 14th general convention and those who submitted active-membership forms by December 25 last year.
