The Election Commission has launched a nationwide special voter education campaign targeting the upcoming election.
The campaign, which began on Sunday, will continue until March 1, News Agency Nepal reported.
According to Information Officer Suman Ghimire, the commission is advancing the program more effectively under its own leadership this time, addressing weaknesses observed in past elections.
In the past, local government employees were mobilized as volunteers. However, this time the commission has appointed one of its own volunteers in each ward.
Since earlier programs operated by local levels showed a lack of ownership, the commission has selected and trained its own volunteers and deployed them to the field.
These volunteers will educate voters on proper voting procedures, taking into account local languages and contexts. Ghimire said that the main feature of this campaign is “digital voter education.”
To reduce paper usage, the commission has prioritized social media over posters and pamphlets.
Videos, animations, and brochures available on the commission’s official Facebook page, Election Commission Nepal, will be used to educate voters.
Volunteers will conduct door-to-door outreach, using sample ballot papers and the swastika stamp to teach voters how to avoid invalid votes, Ghimire added.
According to him, the commission has also used technology to monitor the campaign’s effectiveness. Election contact persons in each local unit have been assigned monitoring responsibilities, while daily reporting and supervision are being carried out from the center through WhatsApp groups. Voters have also been encouraged to follow the commission’s official page and obtain election-related information through digital platforms.
