A complaint has been filed at the Election Commission against Senior leader of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Balen Shah.
One Dharma Raj Timilsina filed the complaint alleging that he made hateful, misleading, and defamatory statements in violation of the election code of conduct, prevailing laws, and the democratic electoral process.
The petition mentions that the comments made by Shah via social media regarding the context of a transparent, intellectual, and fact-based public debate proposed publicly by CPN-UML Chairman and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli are against the spirit of democratic debate.
The petition claims that the words used by Shah, such as "murderer of 76 children, terrorist, burner of the country," are serious, criminal, and baseless allegations made without any evidence or court decision. It further states that such expressions pose a risk of causing serious damage to an individual's social reputation, spreading public hatred toward a legitimate political party, and confusing the mindset of voters.
Reminding that the Constitution of Nepal, the election code of conduct, and prevailing laws prohibit influencing voters using misleading information, hate speech, and unsubstantiated allegations during the election period, the petition demands a factual investigation into the statement and necessary action if it is found to be against the code of conduct.
Similarly, the petition mentions that videos have surfaced on the social media appearing to show RSP using vehicles with Indian number plates for election campaigning in areas including Mahottari, claiming that such an act is also against the election code of conduct. A demand has been made to the Election Commission to investigate the facts of that incident and take necessary action.
