Nepali Congress has issued a five-point circular regarding the use of national flag during the election campaign.
NC Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma, who also serves as the coordinator of the Central Election Mobilization Committee, issued the circular to the party's subordinate bodies Monday, urging them to pay attention to the proper use of national flag.
The points mentioned in the circular are as follows:
1. Use only up to 10 national flags during the election campaign as specified in the code of conduct.
2. Fly the national flag respectfully in a manner that it remains above a person's head. (It is necessary for us to keep in mind the fact that the tradition of lowering the flag occurs only during mourning after a death)
3. Draping the flag over the body of any candidate or campaigner is wrong from the perspective of election code of conduct, respect, and culture. Do not do that or allow such actions at all. (It is necessary to keep in mind that there is a tradition of draping the flag over a body during a funeral procession with national honors or before lighting the funeral pyre)
4. Wrapping the flag around the arms, waist, or neck like a jacket or muffler by any candidate or campaigner is an insult to the flag rather than an act of respect. Do not do that or allow this at all.
5. When flying the national flag at program venues, campaign offices, or on any vehicle, fly it above the party flag and the election symbol.
