Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire has said that there is a possibility of the dissolved House of Representatives being reinstated.
Speaking the case related to the dissolution of Parliament is currently under consideration at the Supreme Court, Ghimire said that there remains a possibility that the court could order the House’s restoration.
Addressing an interaction held on Tuesday in Jhapa Constituency No. 2, Speaker Ghimire said that the dissolution of Parliament had forcibly pushed the Constitution off its tracks, News Agency Nepal reported.
Stating that he is required to continue discharging his official duties until February 17 in accordance with the Constitution and the law, Ghimire claimed that he is proceeding accordingly.
“The Parliament was forcibly dissolved around 11 p.m. on the night of September 12. In that sense, the Constitution has been steered off course,” he said. “However, since the speaker’s constitutional and legal term remains until February 17, before the upcoming general election scheduled for March 5, I must remain in office in that official capacity.”
Speaker Ghimire also clarified that, due to his current official responsibilities, he has not yet been able reach a decision on contesting the upcoming election.
