Nepali Congress central member and former energy minister Deepak Khadka has said that those who leave the party will be expelled.
Khadka made the remarks while speaking to journalists after arriving at the party’s central office in Sanepa to attend the central committee meeting called for Tuesday.
Responding to a question about what kind of decision the party was preparing to take, he said, “Generally, once someone leaves the party, they are expelled.”
He also said that talks were ongoing between supporters of the special general convention and the establishment faction led by party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The Nepali Congress central committee meeting, scheduled for 1:30 p.m., had not yet begun at the time of filing this report.
Khadka said that senior leaders were actively working to resolve the party’s internal dispute.
“Top leaders are engaged in efforts to keep everyone together. Over there (at the special general convention venue at Bhrikuti Mandap), registration of nominations has begun. Here (in Sanepa), a central committee meeting has been called. Discussions are ongoing. District presidents from across the country are sitting together and exerting pressure,” he said. “Let’s wait for an hour or two.”
At the party’s central office, central committee members are signing attendance for the meeting. Some leaders have been using strong language, calling for immediate action against supporters of the special general convention.
However, Khadka said that any decision taken by the central committee would be determined by developments and due process.
“There are procedures. There is the party statute. Decisions will be taken within that framework,” he said, “Talks are ongoing.”
