Most office-bearers and members of the Rupandehi district committee of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), including the district chair, have resigned.
According to Senior Vice-chair Rakesh Koiri, 33 members of the NUP’s Rupandehi district committee, including Chair Tulsi Tharu, have resigned en masse and are preparing to join the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
“There are 51 members in the district working committee, and we are trying to bring as many of them as possible,” Koiri said.
He said that they left the party without consulting Chairperson Ranjita Shrestha or Resham Chaudhary, citing disagreements with the party leadership’s decisions, working style, and organizational management process.
“There is an RSP event in Kathmandu tomorrow, and we are heading to Kathmandu this evening to join the party at that event,” Koiri said.
He said that a trend of members leaving the NUP for the RSP is gaining momentum across other districts in Lumbini province, adding that they are working on a plan to "wipe out" the NUP's presence in the province.
According to Koiri, those resigning include District Chair Tulsi Tharu, District Senior Vice-chair Rakesh Koiri, central member Mahesh Giri, Tara Devi Chaudhary, Manju Dagoriya, Keshav Chaudhary, provincial member Madhav Chaudhary, District Treasurer Ram Bahadur Tharu, and District Woman Chair Radha Chaudhary, among others.
