The inquiry commission formed to investigate the incidents of September 8 and 9 has sent questionnaires to Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
A commission source said that both leaders have been sent questions related to the incidents.
On September 9, nationwide protests led to arson and vandalism of various physical properties. As the crowd became uncontrollable, Deuba was at his private residence in Budhanilkantha. Protestors breached the police security deployed for his protection and entered his house. During the incident, protestors also assaulted Deuba and his wife, Arzu Rana. Both were later rescued by the Nepal Army.
Similarly, Dahal was inside Singha Durbar when the protests were taking place. He was also rescued by the army.
The houses of both leaders were set on fire and vandalized.
The commission is now preparing to record a statement from then-prime minister KP Sharma Oli. It is preparing to send him a formal letter seeking his statement.
Oli has repeatedly said that he will not appear before the commission to give a statement.
Meanwhile, a source said that commission officials themselves may visit Oli and record his statement. However, it is not yet certain when his statement will be recorded.
So far, the commission has recorded statements and collected incident details from more than 150 people in connection with the case.
A few days ago, the commission recorded a statement from then-home minister Ramesh Lekhak. Earlier, it had also taken statements from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki, former IGP Chandra Kuber Khapung, former home secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi, former National Investigation Department chief Hutaraj Thapa, and Armed Police Force IGP Raju Aryal, among others.
