The inquiry commission formed to investigate the events of September 8 and 9 is set to issue a formal summons to then-prime minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli for a statement.
Speaking with journalists at Singha Durbar on Thursday, the commission’s chairman, Gauri Bahadur Karki, said that they were in the process of sending the letter to summon Oli.
However, Oli has repeatedly said that he will not give a statement to the commission. He has taken a firm stance, saying he would not give a statement even if he were shot.
When journalists asked Chairman Karki what the commission would do if Oli refused to appear, he responded, "That will be known at that time."
The commission also conducted a second round of questioning with then-home minister Ramesh Lekhak on Wednesday. Karki said that Lekhak’s statement has been completed.
Although the commission's original mandate was for three months, its term has been extended by one month as it has yet to complete its work.
Karki also said that discussions were held with the government regarding the commission’s work.
"We discussed how far the work has progressed. The deadline has been extended by a month, and we will submit the report within that period," he said.
