The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) and the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) have signed an agreement on party unification.
The agreement between the NUP, led by Ranjita Shrestha, and the NCP, with Pushpa Kamal Dahal as its coordinator, was reached on Monday.
According to the agreement, the party’s name after unification will be Nepali Communist Party, and its election symbol will be a star.
The agreement defines Nepal as a multi-ethnic, multilingual, multi-religious, multicultural, and inclusive federal democratic republican state, describing unity in diversity as a national characteristic.
According to the agreement, both parties have committed to correcting past shortcomings and moving forward toward socialism through federalism, good governance, prosperity, and social justice.
Elected representatives from both parties at the federal, provincial, and local levels will automatically become members of the unified Nepali Communist Party. Likewise, all existing structures of the NUP, including its central committee, will be merged into the NCP through mutual agreement.
The agreement was signed by NCP Coordinator Dahal, Co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal, and NUP Chairperson Shrestha.
