The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), led by Rajendra Lingden, and the RPP-Nepal, led by Kamal Thapa, have reached an agreement to unify the two pro-monarchy parties.
RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha informed Setopati that Lingden and Thapa signed the agreement at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
The signing ceremony took place at the RPP central office in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu.
According to the agreement, the unification of the two parties will be officially announced on December 31 at the Rastriya Sabha Griha (City Hall) in Kathmandu.
In December 2021, Thapa was defeated by Lingden for the position of chairman during the RPP's seventh general convention. Shortly after his defeat, Thapa left the party and revived the RPP-Nepal.
Both parties had been preparing the groundwork for unification in recent months and even formed dialogue committees for the purpose.
