Nepali Congress spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that the party has not officially decided to file a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding the reinstatement of the House of Representatives.
He also mentioned that the party's central committee has decided to participate in the general election.
However, eight members of the dissolved House of Representatives from the NC, including Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire and Whip Sushila Thing, filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the reinstatement of the House.
When Setopati inquired about the matter with spokesperson Mahat, he said, "The party has not made any official decision to approach the Supreme Court with a writ for reinstatement of the House of Representatives. We have decided through the central committee to participate in the general election."
According to Mahat, the NC has declared the dissolution of the House of Representatives unconstitutional and undemocratic.
"Therefore, some colleagues may have gone to the Supreme Court with a writ petition; members of the dissolved House of Representatives may have filed the writ demanding reinstatement,” said Mahat. “At a time when there is uncertainty about whether the election will be held on March 5, some colleagues might have decided to file a writ petition for reinstatement."
Meanwhile, Chief Whip Ghimire said that the petition demanding the reinstatement of the House of Representatives was filed in the Supreme Court after consultation with party leaders.
