Prime Minister Sushila Karki has stated that it is the primary responsibility of the government to hold elections on the announced date, hand over power to the younger generation, and steer the country toward rapid development.
She made these remarks while addressing the 22nd National Jyapu Day ceremony organized by the Jyapu Culture Development Trust in Kathmandu on Thursday, News Agency Nepal reported.
PM Karki said the government is fully engaged in preparations to ensure elections are held on the announced date.
She also affirmed that the government is serious about addressing the demands raised by the Gen Z movement.
Referring to the Gen Z movement’s calls for an end to corruption, good governance, employment, and guaranteed food, shelter, and clothing, she stressed that everyone must be committed to fulfilling these demands.
She said, "We must learn a lesson from the incidents that occurred alongside the Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9. The nation's youth force has demanded an end to corruption, the establishment of good governance, and assurance of employment, food, shelter, and clothing for the public. Everyone needs to work with dedication from their respective positions to fulfill these demands. Furthermore, it is our duty as a government to hold the general election on March 5, hand over power to the youth, and lead the country toward rapid development. Therefore, the government is fully engaged in preparations with the goal of successfully conducting the elections on the announced date. I also expect the cooperation of all Nepalis to make this campaign successful."
She further emphasized the need to preserve culture while linking it with tourism promotion.
On the occasion of Yamari Punhi and Jyapu Day, she extended best wishes to the Newar community of the Kathmandu Valley.
