CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Senior Vice-chairman Ishwar Pokharel, and other leaders held a meeting in Gundu on Thursday.
The meeting focused on the disputes in various districts regarding the selection of general convention delegates.
According to Vice-chairman Surendra Pandey, who participated in the meeting, disputes arose during the selection of general convention delegates in various districts, including Okhaldhunga, Chitwan, Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Salyan, and Doti.
Pandey said that he and other leaders, including Senior Vice-chairman Pokharel, drew Chairman Oli's attention to the matter.
UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai and other leaders also attended the discussion held on Thursday.
During the meeting, leaders including Senior Vice-chairman Pokharel objected to the organization department rejecting the delegates selected in some districts, including Okhaldhunga, and issuing instructions to restart the election process.
"Those close to [General Secretary] Shankar Pokharel have monopolized the process in Dang. In Salyan, delegates were selected while staying in a hotel. Members there have filed complaints. While nothing is being done about those complaints, instructions have been sent to hold a re-election in places where the process had already concluded through an election. We drew the chairman's attention to this today," said a leader who attended the meeting.
Although the Okhaldhunga district committee was instructed to start the election process within five days, it has not moved the voting process forward. All 12 representatives elected there were from Senior Vice-chairman Pokharel's faction. In Dang and Salyan, however, delegates aligned with General Secretary Pokharel were elected.
Meanwhile, Pokharel has also objected to delegates being brought to the convention from the newly-formed National Volunteer Force.
"Delegates for the general convention have also been selected from a mass organization that was formed after the general convention had already been announced. This is not acceptable under any circumstances. We have raised this issue directly with the chairman," Vice-chairman Pandey said.
