The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) led by Ashok Rai has split.
Federal Council Chair Rajendra Shrestha and other leaders are set to join the Nepali Communist Party led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
They wrote to Chairman Rai informing him of their departure from the party.
“We, the members of the central executive committee, would like to inform you that we are stepping down from our respective positions and responsibilities in the Janata Samajwadi Party and moving forward toward unification and polarization with the Nepali Communist Party, which was formed through the merger of various parties,” the letter states.
They have concluded that even the achievements gained through the 2006 People’s Movement could be at risk in the new situation that has emerged after the Gen Z movement. Therefore, they say, it has become necessary to unite with pro-change political forces that have similar ideologies to protect the existing achievements and struggle for further progress.
Those set to join the Nepali Communist Party include Federal Council Chair Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Ranadhwaj Limbu (Kandangwa), Parshuram Basnet, Durgamani Dewan, Dr Pushparaj Rajkarnikar, and Krishna Bahadur Ghaju.
They had been holding discussions with the Nepali Communist Party for some time.
