Prime Minister Sushila Karki held talks with Nepali Congress leaders on Tuesday.
The talks, held on Tuesday morning at the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar, lasted nearly two hours.
PM Karki and NC leaders Devraj Chalise, Gururaj Ghimire, Rajendra Bajgain, Ujjwal Baral, Resham Baniya, Tekraj Paudel, Chhedup Lama, and Sandeep Niraula took part in the discussion.
The prime minister has been holding talks with leaders of political parties as well on creating an environment for elections. Tuesday’s meeting is said to be a continuation of that effort.
NC leader Ghimire said that they went to Baluwatar after being invited by the prime minister and returned after holding discussions.
“The prime minister said that the government is committed to holding the House of Representatives elections on March 5, and that all political parties, including the Nepali Congress, should prepare for the elections and create a conducive environment for the elections,” he said. “We also emphasized that the government must hold the elections on time. Eight of us had gone, and each of us spoke in turn.”
Bajgain, another leader who attended the talks with PM Karki, said that he found the prime minister committed to holding the elections on March 5.
“She said that political parties must cooperate for the elections; we said that the elections must be held on time,” he said. “She appears fully committed to democracy, the rule of law, and conducting free and fair elections.”
