Seven political parties in Madhesh province are set to go to court against the appointment of Saroj Kumar Yadav as chief minister.
Parties including the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP), and Janamat Party held a meeting on Monday and decided to move the court against the appointment of Yadav as chief minister under Article 168 (3) of the Constitution.
“We held a meeting today. The province chief has acted unconstitutionally,” said former chief minister and LSP leader Jitendra Sonal. “We will now go to both the court and the people.”
The seven parties have taken to protest, arguing that although a government could be formed under Article 168 (2) of the Constitution and the required support had already been secured, the province chief appointed the UML party leader as chief minister and administered the oath at a hotel.
On Monday, the seven parties vandalized the offices of the chief minister and the province chief. They also padlocked the Chief Minister’s Office.
Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari appointed Saroj Yadav as chief minister on Monday, but with the letter dated a day earlier. She administered the oath to the chief minister at a hotel in Bardibas.
