Bhim Rawal is set to join the Nepali Communist Party.
After the CPN-UML took action against him, revoking even his ordinary membership, Rawal had been running the Matribhumi Jagaran Abhiyan under his own leadership.
After 10 leftist groups, including the then CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN (Unified Socialist), unified to form the Nepali Communist Party, discussions had been ongoing for several days about including Rawal’s campaign into the unified party.
On Sunday, Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal, and leaders Prakash Jwala, Bhanubhakta Joshi, Sher Bahadur Kunwar, among others, held a meeting with Rawal.
During the discussion, Dahal and Nepal requested Rawal to join the Nepali Communist Party.
“The discussion with Bhim Rawalji was positive; it has almost been finalized that he will join the Nepali Communist Party. An event may also be held on November 12 or 13,” a leader who took part in the discussion told Setopati. “He will be given an appropriate status and responsibility within the party.”
According to the leader, party officials are positive about granting Rawal sixth rank in the party hierarchy. In the new hierarchy of the Nepali Communist Party, Rawal would follow Dahal, Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal, Bamdev Gautam, and Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
When the UML and the Maoist Center previously unified to form the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), leaders up to Narayan Kaji Shrestha were included in the secretariat. Now, the Nepali Communist Party is preparing to include Rawal in the secretariat as well.
Setopati also spoke with Rawal regarding the ongoing discussion about merging with the party,.
He confirmed that talks were ongoing with party leaders.
“Discussions are taking place with leaders. We are still in the process of holding talks,” he said.
A leader close to Rawal said that further discussions would take place on Monday evening as well. “The process of unifying with the Nepali Communist Party will be finalized today,” the leader said. “So far, only Rawal’s ranking and responsibilities have been finalized.”
