Ghanashyam Bhusal, Janardan Sharma, and CPN General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand held a meeting on Friday.
Bhusal and Sharma met Chand at his residence in Harisiddhi on Friday morning.
According to CPN leader Asal C, who is privy to the details of the meeting, the leaders discussed moving forward through cooperation.
"The discussion was about how to unite the communist movement. Such discussions have been happening since before," he said, "However, this is the first such discussion after Prachanda [Pushpa Kamal Dahal] created an old-age home in the name of the Nepali Communist Party."
The Nepali Communist Party was formed through the unification of 10 leftist groups, including the CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN (Unified Socialist). Chand, Sharma, and Bhusal did not join the unified party.
He said that Friday’s discussion did not reach any concrete conclusion regarding party unity.
"If ideological alignment continues among progressive, true nationalist communists, unity might happen," he said, "For now, there will be functional cooperation."
He also said that if the elections take place on March 5, such discussions will be held again for political cooperation.
"We don't think elections will happen on March 5. Even if they happen, we can hold such meetings again, discuss, and reach a conclusion," he said.
