Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandra Kuber Khapung has submitted his clarification to the inquiry commission formed to investigate the incidents of September 8 and 9.
On Wednesday, the commission had asked IGP Khapung to furnish clarification within 24 hours, stating that he had obstructed its work.
A source said that the IGP has already sent his clarification.
According to the source, the Nepal Police Headquarters has also sent the details sought by the inquiry commission. The response mentions that there was no intention to delay sending the details, the source added.
Following the submission of the details, the commission has started recording statements from police personnel from Thursday. So far, the statement of one officer has been recorded. The commission plans to gradually record statements from others.
Shortly after its formation, the inquiry commission had written to the police asking for details about who were deployed in the field on September 8 and 9.
Even after 22 days of receiving the letter, the Police Headquarters had not provided the details. The commission then wrote another letter inquiring about the details.
In response, the police replied that personnel ranging from the IGP down to the constable level were deployed in the field during those two days.
After the police failed to send the detailed list, the inquiry commission sent a letter, directly addressed to IGP Khapung, to the Police Headquarters on Sunday, demanding a response within 24 hours.
After receiving the letter, the headquarters responded that the details were with the Kathmandu Valley Police Office and that obtaining the details from there would take time.
Stating that the headquarters itself should have provided the details, the inquiry commission asked IGP Khapung for an explanation on Wednesday.
