The CPN (Unified Socialist) has decided to unify with the CPN (Maoist Center).
Leader Jagannath Khatiwada said that the party’s central committee meeting that concluded on Friday decided to merge with the Maoist Center and the Nepal Samajwadi Party led by Mahindra Raya Yadav.
“The central committee meeting has unanimously decided to unify,” he said.
The central committee has entrusted the party secretariat with the responsibility of carrying out further homework and resolving the remaining issues related to party unification.
According to party leaders, policy and leadership matters have already been settled with the Maoist Center.
They said that the unified party will not have a multi-post structure, with Pushpa Kamal Dahal serving as coordinator and Madhav Kumar Nepal as co-coordinator. It has been agreed to name the party CPN (Socialist). However, discussions on the name have not concluded. The leaders said that discussions on the election symbol are also ongoing.
It has been decided that the party's guiding principles will be Marxism and Leninism, it will adopt socialism with Nepali characteristics, and advance on the path toward long-term scientific socialism, the leader said.
However, at least 14 leaders including senior leader Jhalanath Khanal, General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal, senior leader Ghanendra Basnet, and standing committee members Ram Kumari Jhakri, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, and Bijay Paudel have already said that they will not participate in the unification process.
