A corruption case has been filed against 16 individuals including Saroj Kumar Singh Kushwaha, a member of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly from the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) registered the corruption case against lawmaker Kushwaha and 15 others on Thursday.
CIAA spokesperson Rajendra Prasad Paudel said that they have been accused of committing corruption by forming various consumer committees.
According to him, the case has been filed against lawmaker Kushwaha, along with Yamuna Prasad Mahato, chairman of the Dharmashala Construction Consumer Committee, and treasurer Kaushilya Devi; Yogindar Mahato, chairman of the Construction Consumer Committee, and treasurer Sunayana Kumari; Ramanath Sahani, chairman of the Incomplete Kamalamai Temple and Malatamaisthan Compound Wall Construction Consumer Committee, and treasurer Swikriti Devi.
Similarly, the case has been registered against Ramsharan Khatwe, chairman of the Maisthan Temple Beautification Consumer Committee, and treasurer Vibha Devi Khatwe; Ramesh Madar, chairman of the Kanjaniyamai Temple Beautification Construction Consumer Committee, and treasurer Amalesh Kumari; Diparaj Devi Rajput, chair of the Devi Maharani Beautification Construction Consumer Committee, and treasurer Bhikhari Raut Kurmi; Bhupendra Kumar Jha, chairman of the Gravel Construction Consumer Committee, Shambhu Kumar Mandal, and Manju Devi Paswan.
The charge sheet states that lawmaker Singh committed corruption amounting to Rs 3.8 million, or 28 percent of the total funds deposited in various consumer committees' accounts. An equivalent amount in damages has been demanded from him.
