Chief Minister of Madhesh province Satish Kumar Singh has resigned.
Singh, who had been saying that he would face the provincial assembly, resigned without seeking a vote of confidence.
He announced his resignation while delivering a speech in the provincial assembly on Tuesday.
"I inform you that I am resigning from the post of chief minister, paving the way forward in the current situation," he said.
After Singh announced his resignation without seeking a vote of confidence, the agenda related to the vote of confidence in the provincial assembly was removed without being presented.
Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal instructed Singh to submit a written resignation to the province chief. He also announced that the provincial assembly has been adjourned until further notice.
Chief Minister Singh had informed the Madhesh Provincial Assembly via a letter on October 10 that he would seek a vote of confidence.
He was scheduled to seek a vote of confidence in accordance with Article 188 (2) of the Constitution and Rule 143 (4) of the Provincial Assembly Operation Regulations.
Article 188 (2) of the Constitution states that if the party represented by the chief minister splits or if a party participating in the provincial government withdraws its support, the chief ministers must table a motion in the provincial assembly for a vote of confidence within 30 days.
Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari has accepted the resignation submitted by the chief minister.
