The Election Commission has announced that voter registration will be open until November 16.
Issuing a statement on Thursday, Joint Secretary Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Election Commission, said that voter registration will be open from Friday (September 26) to November 16.
"The voter registration process, which was halted after the announcement of the election date, will resume until November 16 as per the commission's decision," the statement said.
Individuals who have completed 16 years of age and have not yet registered on the voter list can register at provincial and district election offices from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., it added.
However, one must have completed 18 years the day before the election to be eligible to vote, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari clarified. The statement will be corrected, he added.
The commission has said that applicants can fill out a pre-registration form on its website and then visit the election offices for biometric details.
The government has announced the House of Representatives election for March 5, 2026. After an election date is announced, voter registration is typically halted. Therefore, the government amended this provision through an ordinance.
Following the amendment, the commission made arrangements to allow registration to continue.
