On September 9, almost no top leader's home was spared from vandalism and arson, including the home of former president Bidya Devi Bhandari.
When protestors started vandalizing and setting fire to her house in Bhangal, Budhanilkantha, former president Bhandari was still inside.
When the fire began to spread inside the house, the army rescued her. Soldiers put her in a vehicle and drove her away.
Protestors have posted that video on social media. After Bhandari was evacuated, the protestors entered the house and vandalized it and set it on fire.
Bhandari’s secretariat said that the arson at the former president's house had started in the afternoon on September 9.
The army rescued Bhandari from her residence and transported her to Shivapuri by road. An officer said that the former president was kept at the Nepal Army's Staff College in Shivapuri.
Former prime minister KP Sharma Oli and other ministers were also sheltered there. Most of them have now come out of the security cordon. Top leaders have also started to come out. Only former PM Oli remains there now.
The army claims that former president Bhandari has been moving between Shivapuri and her home. Her house is not in a livable condition at the moment.
Bhandari’s secretariat also said that she is in a safe location.
The crowd at Bhandari's residence was not big until noon, but it started to grow in the afternoon, said an army officer.
On the same day, the residence of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba was vandalized starting in the morning.
Security personnel had a hard time rescuing the Deuba couple. The protestors assaulted them, leaving them bloodied and injured.
