The government has decided to form a high-level inquiry committee to conduct an impartial investigation into the incidents that occurred during the Gen Z protests.
Home and Law Minister Om Prakash Aryal said that the new Cabinet, at its meeting on Monday, made a decision to form an inquiry committee led by a former judge to investigate the incidents that took place during the protests..
“However, the structure of the committee is yet to be finalized,” he said.
Additionally, the government decided to declare those who died during the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9 as martyrs.
The meeting also decided to conduct the last rites of the deceased with national honors.
The Cabinet decided to observe September 17 as a day of mourning.
The meeting further decided to provide Rs 1.5 million, including Rs 1 million as relief and Rs 500,000 for other expenses, to the families of each deceased.
Minister Aryal said that the relief would be distributed through the Home Ministry via the Finance Ministry and the respective District Administration Offices.
Additionally, the government decided to provide free medical treatment to those injured during the protests, he added.
Following the formation of the interim government, Prime Minister Sushila Karki expanded her Cabinet on Monday, appointing three ministers. The first Cabinet meeting was held on Monday after the Cabinet expansion.
