Madhav Kumar Nepal, chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist), has claimed that no discussions have taken place regarding unification with the CPN (Maoist Center).
Speaking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Friday before attending a party event in Sunsari, Nepal said, “There has been no talk of unification at this time. The discussion is about cooperation.”
Nepal said that discussions are ongoing to continue the Socialist Front and strengthen the relationship between the two parties based on trust.
However, Netra Bikram Chand, general secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal and current coordinator of the Socialist Front, has proposed dissolving the front.
Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepal had argued against dissolving the front.
Throughout the week, there were reports of multiple lengthy discussions between Dahal and Nepal regarding party unification.
However, Unified Socialist Respected leader Jhala Nath Khanal said that there is strong opposition to unification with the Maoist Center, and that those who want to join the Maoist Center are free to do so.
Responding to questions from journalists regarding the matter, Nepal reiterated that there has been no discussion about party unification with the Maoist Center.
As always, Nepal vented ire against his former political ally, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli. He accused Oli’s arrogance and ego of putting the communist movement in Nepal in a difficult position.
Accusing the government led by PM Oli of failing in every aspect, Nepal said, “Due to KP Oli’s arrogance, ego, wrong policies, and wrong actions, the entire country is suffering. Until KP Oli is removed, the country will not be free from this suffering.”
Nepal also claimed that the corruption case filed against him was a result of political vendetta.
