A committee has been formed under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hobindra Bogati of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) to investigate individuals who recently went to Spain on visit visas and did not return.
The six-member committee includes members from the CIB and the Anti Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police.
SSP Bogati said that the committee has already started its work after its formation. "After the committee was formed, we are currently in discussions. We have already begun the work," he said.
On Monday, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak directed Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deepak Thapa to conduct an investigation into the matter.
The home minister instructed IGP Thapa to focus the investigation on others apart from the government delegation who went on the Spain visit, how and through which organizations they went, who handled their visa process and other arrangements, and who coordinated their visits.
It was decided that the Central Investigation Bureau and the Anti Human Trafficking Bureau would investigate the incident.
Prime Minister Oli led a Nepali delegation to Spain on June 28 and returned home on July 4.
After the prime minister’s return from Spain, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Sobita Gautam raised the issue in the House of Representatives meeting on July 8, citing news reports that some individuals who went on the Spain visit had not returned to Nepal.
Following her remarks, news reports were published about some individuals not returning to Nepal.
