The Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order in a writ petition filed against Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Biswo Nath Poudel.
On Tuesday, a bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Mahesh Sharma Paudel rejected the request for an interim order in the petition filed against Governor Poudel.
The bench also prioritized the case for further hearing.
The petition, filed by advocates Bishal Thapa, Ananta Raj Luintel, and Pratibha Upreti, was registered on May 27.
The petition named the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Finance, the Governor Recommendation Committee, Nepal Rastra Bank, and Governor Poudel as defendants.
The petitioners questioned Poudel’s qualifications and sought an interim order to halt his authority to sign currency notes, among other demands.
On May 28, Justice Abdul Aziz Musalman’s bench issued a show-cause order and summoned both parties for discussion on whether to issue an interim order.
However, Tuesday’s bench refused to issue any interim order in the petition.
Advocates Thapa and Upreti had previously filed another petition in the Supreme Court regarding Poudel’s appointment as governor. However, the Supreme Court refused to register the petition, stating that it was based solely on media reports about his impending appointment.
