CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Ram Kumari Jhakri has called for a change in the party’s leadership.
Addressing a Lumbini province gathering of the party's sister organization, Youth Federation Nepal, on Saturday, Jhakri said that a constitutional crisis has emerged in the party leadership, necessitating a change.
"There is a crisis in the party. A crisis has arisen regarding the chairman himself. What do we do now? Now, we must move forward by reorganizing the party. I’m not saying we should run away when a crisis arises. Let’s reorganize the party. How do we do it?" she said.
Jhakri pointed out that an early general convention could bring about a leadership change but emphasized that carrying a "carcass on one’s shoulders" was not feasible.
"Legally and constitutionally, the chairman is facing problems. Many other party members are also facing issues. Now, we cannot walk around carrying a carcass on our shoulders," she said.
She suggested that an early general convention would be a new point of departure for the party.
"Let’s hold an early general convention. Let’s reorganize and elect a new chairperson. How will this work? That’s what I say," she added.
Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal is accused of corruption in the sale and purchase of land belonging to Patanjali Yogpeeth and Ayurveda Company in Kavre.
The Special Court recently released him on a bail of Rs 3.5 million.
After the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a corruption case against Nepal and others in connection with the Patanjali land, Nepal’s position as a member of parliament has also been suspended.
