The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal withdrew its support to the Lumbini province government on Friday.
Lumbini provincial assembly member Ambika Kafle submitted a letter to Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya on behalf of the party on Friday, according to the chief minister’s secretariat.
The letter submitted by Kafle states that the party has withdrawn its support to the government.
Additionally, Kafle has requested arrangements for the JSP Nepal to be seated as an opposition party in the provincial assembly.
Although the JSP Nepal has submitted the letter withdrawing its support, discussions are ongoing, the chief minister’s secretariat said. Kafle is the only lawmaker from the JSP Nepal in the Lumbini provincial assembly.
Speaking to Setopati, Kafle said that while the government would not collapse, the party withdrew its support as the government had failed.
“The party had supported the government expecting it to perform well. However, the party withdrew its support since the government failed to perform as per the expectations of the public and us lawmakers. Even though the party’s support or withdrawal won’t topple the government, we felt it was appropriate to withdraw support as it has failed,” she said.
The JSP Nepal, led by Upendra Yadav, earlier also decided at its central executive committee meeting to withdraw support to the central government. Preparations are underway to formally withdraw support after the parliamentary party endorses the committee’s decision.
