Police have released seven individuals, including Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa and RPP lawmaker Deepak Singh, who were detained during a demonstration by royalists in Kathmandu on Sunday.
According to Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohara of the District Police Office, Kathmandu, seven individuals taken into custody have been released.
Those detained included RPP Nepal Chairman Thapa, RPP lawmaker Singh, activist Shila Rana, businessman Rakesh Basnet, gold trader Ram Chandra Lamichhane, businessman Binod Kapali, RPP Youth Front Nepal member Saroj Timilsina, and Rajeev Jha.
Police had detained them from the protest venue on charges including inciting the crowd, using abusive language, attempting to breach a restricted area, and clashing with the police.
SP Bohara said that although seven of those detained have been released, Jha remains in police custody.
According to him, Jha had consumed alcohol and used abusive language in the crowd.
“Among the eight individuals, seven have been released on guarantee, while Dr Rajiv Jha has been kept in custody. Jha had consumed alcohol and also used abusive language in the crowd,” he said.
