The Supreme Court has refused to register a writ petition filed against Bishwa Paudel, the former vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission who resigned from the governor recommendation committee.
The court administration rejected the petition on Friday, three days after it was submitted to the court claiming Paudel was ineligible to become the governor.
According to the court’s information officer Nirajan Pandey, the Supreme Court’s Registrar Bhadrakali Pokharel refused to register the petition filed by advocates Pratibha Upreti and Bishal Thapa.
“The governor recommendation committee has not even recommended him. The case was premature, based solely on news reports, and lacked a solid basis,” Pandey said. “It also mentioned a violation of collective rights, but it failed to clarify how those rights were violated.”
The petition argued that an individual who has been a member of a political party cannot be appointed as governor. Paudel should not be made governor as he was a Mahasamiti member of the Nepali Congress and a defeated candidate for the House of Representatives, it further said.
