The Supreme Court has continued its order to not implement the decision to remove the 65-year age limit for governor appointment.
On Wednesday, a bench comprising Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Bal Krishna Dhakal upheld the short-term interim order issued earlier on April 15, Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel said.
On April 15, Justice Nityananda Pandeya's single bench had issued an interim order temporarily halting the implementation of the decision to remove the 65-year age limit for the appointment of governor.
With the continuation of the order, implementation of the amended criteria removing the 65-year age limit for governor remains suspended.
Advocate Bishal Thapa had filed a writ petition challenging the amendment to remove the age limit for governor appointment. The petition named the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Finance, Governor Recommendation Committee, and Nepal Rastra Bank as defendants.
A supplementary petition was also filed naming Gunakar Bhatta as defendant for his proposed appointment as governor. But the court's decision on this matter has not been disclosed yet.
The government had amended the Criteria for Appointment and Nomination of Office Bearers and Members of Public Bodies under the Finance Ministry to remove the age limit for appointments.
