Suvarna Jwarchan has been sworn in as House of Representatives (HoR) member on Sunday.
The Federal Parliament Secretariat tweeted that Speaker Agni Sapkota has administered oath of office and secrecy to the Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Sunday afternoon.
Jwarchan will replace Gyan Kumari Chhantyal of Baglung who passed away on July 1. The party has nominated Chhantyal's replacement as she was elected through the proportional representation (PR) system.
Jwarchan was immediately below Chhantyal among women (janajati) in the closed list for PR the party sent to the Election Commission before the general election.
The HoR election regulation requires the replacement also to be from the closed list sent to the Election Commission if someone dies before completion of the term.
Jwarchan has been active in NC for a long time and had participated during the plebiscite for democracy in 1980 and the struggle against the Panchayat regime for democracy.
She also served as minister of state for urban development in the then Pushpa Kamal Dahal led coalition government with the Maoists after being appointed on November 30, 2016.
