Former minister and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Deepak Khadka has been arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Sunday.
CIB Chief AIG Manoj Kumar KC confirmed the arrest stating that Khadka was taken into custody for an investigation under money laundering charges.
The arrest follows developments on September 9 last year when protesters set fire to Khadka's residence in Budhanilkantha. During the incident, videos widely circulated on the social media showing large sums of cash allegedly discovered at his home, with footage appearing to show money being scattered or "flown" by the crowd.
AIG KC informed that Khadka was arrested specifically to investigate the source and nature of that money.
