The Kathmandu District Court has refused to issue an arrest warrant for CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet.
On Monday, the District Police Range, Kathmandu, approached the court seeking an arrest warrant for Basnet, but the court declined the request.
Shobha Pathak had filed a fresh complaint at the police range on Sunday, alleging she was a victim of Basnet. In her complaint, Pathak accused Basnet of rape and forced abortion (feticide).
The District Government Attorney's Office, Kathmandu, had decided not to pursue a case based on the complaint.
That decision is currently under review at the High Government Attorney’s Office, Patan, which will determine whether to uphold or overturn it.
According to Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai of the District Police Range, the court returned the file, stating that the matter is under review at the High Government Attorney’s Office.
"The decision to not proceed with the case has reached the High Government Attorney's Office from the district. Since it is still under consideration there, the warrant was not issued. Further proceedings will follow based on their decision," he said.
