Former chief district officer (CDO) of Kathmandu Chhabi Rijal has been arrested.
A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested him on Tuesday morning. According to SSP Santosh Khadka of the office, Joint Secretary Rijal was apprehended at his residence in Subidhanagar.
Rijal was serving as the Kathmandu CDO during the Gen-Z protests that took place on September 8 and 9 last year. His arrest follows a recommendation from the Inquiry Commission formed to investigate the Gen-Z Movement.
The commission recommended an investigation and prosecution against him for the offense of causing death through negligence under Section 182 of the National Penal Code, 2017.
Under the legal provisions for causing death through negligence, a person may face up to three years of imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 30,000 rupees. This development comes after the previous arrests of the then prime minister KP Sharma Oli and home minister Ramesh Lekhak in connection with the same events.
