The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has chided Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli for whining that India is trying to topple his government.
Addressing a program organized in Baluwatar on Sunday to mark the birth anniversary of Madan Bhandari, PM Oli had claimed the media and intellectual discourse in Delhi, activities of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and meetings in hotels show what is being done to remove him.
"My government was earlier toppled after signing transit agreement with China but we have majority now. Nobody should think of removing KP Oli who has showed temerity to issue map by claiming our territory," he stated. "Let those who are trying try. Nobody should be in a haste. I don’t want to remain with responsibility of PM. But there will be nobody to speak for Nepal if I were to leave now. It's not for today but for tomorrow. Not for me but the country."
NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma has said on Monday that the ruling party, that has almost two-third majority in the parliament, should clarify what PM Oli meant by his comment. "It is necessary for CPN to explain to the country after PM said India is trying to remove him. 1. Does CPN have the constitutional sovereignty of its majority in the parliament to make and remove PM? 2. If yes, is CPN's independent right on responsible wisdom to exercise that safe or not?" Sharma has tweeted tagging the official handle of PM Oli.
"People want change after the government's failure to fight corona (sic). Do thank your colleagues if they save you and accept gratitude for the work you have done until now if they bid farewell. It is not good to publicly cry saying they are trying to remove you. Not tying the purse strings and then blaming the neighbor ill behoves your position PM," Sharma has said in another tweet.
PM Oli had accused India of trying to oust him after issuing the new map including the territory of Kalapani, Lipu Lekh and Limpiyadhuri, and amending the Constitution to change the coat of arms accordingly. "The endorsed map is neither a personal autograph of PM not a shawl to cover his governing inadequacies. The attitude of making the map unanimously passed by the House with the whole country standing together an armor for protecting the government closing the chapter of diplomatic initiative for return of the territory in map is neither political nor diplomatic," he has stated in another tweet.
