Socialist Party Nepal has hinted at initiating action against lawmaker Sarita Giri.
The party is preparing to punish Giri for violating the party whip to vote in support of the Constitution amendment bill to implement the new map, and lodging an amendment proposal against the bill.
She had argued that Nepal lacked source and evidence to establish that the territory of Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipu Lekh belongs to Nepal. She had made similar claims while talking to different media outlets. She had refused to withdraw the amendment proposal despite being warned of action by the party.
Speaker Agni Sapkota stepping on clauses 112(b and c) of the House of Representatives (HoR) regulations rejected the proposal on Saturday. Any amendment proposal should not be against the inherent principles of the bill, and should not be unclear and meaningless, according to the clauses.
Giri left the House after her amendment proposal was rejected and Speaker Sapkota refused to allot time to her to speak at that instance.
The amendment bill was unanimously adopted by the House after Giri left.
A Socialist Party leader told Setopati that the party will investigate about Giri and take action. "The process for action will move forward. The kind of action to be taken will be known after investigation," the leader stated. "There are demands in the party stating that everything she spoke be investigated. We cannot say what action will be taken now."
Deputy chief of the propaganda department of the party Bishwodeep Pandey also confirmed that action will be taken against her. He revealed that party chairmen Baburam Bhatatrai and Upendra Yadav are currently outside the Kathmandu Valley.
"We will discuss about it and take a decision when the chairmen return to Kathmandu."
