Socialist Party Nepal has warned lawmaker Sarita Giri of action for lodging an amendment on the Constitution amendment bill brought by the government stating that the areas of Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipu Lekh should be removed from the map as source and evidence have yet to be revealed.
"We have instructed to withdraw the amendment proposal lodged without asking our party," Chief Whip of Socialist Party Uma Shankar Argariya told Setopati. "I have warned of action otherwise."
Socialist Party has already announced unification with Rashtriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP) to form Janata Samajwadi but the unification has yet to be recognized by the House.
The government has brought the amendment bill to change the coat of arms in Schedule-3 of the Constitution as per Article 9(2) to implement the new map.
Giri, a naturalized Nepali citizen after marriage having been born and raised in India, has lodged an amendment saying clause (2) should be removed from the amendment bill.
She has been claiming that there is no evidence to prove that the area of Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipu Lekh belongs to Nepal. She has been slammed in the House by lawmakers for her statements.
She has registered the amendment despite Socialist Party and RJP both pledging to support the amendment bill during the deliberations on Tuesday.
