The provincial assembly of Karnali has barred two lawmakers, who had gone to their coronavirus-hit constituencies, from the House for a week.
Lawmakers Amar Thapa and Sushil Thapa, who represent Dailekh, have been barred from the assembly for a week starting Monday, according to Sushil Thapa. "We had gone to take stock of our constituencies. We held discussion with the health and security personnel, and local level representatives about ways to prevent and manage the pandemic there," Sushil told Setopati. "We have been stopped from going to the House even though we did not visit quarantine facilities there."
The duo had returned back Sunday evening.
"We took decision to prepare a 50-bed isolation ward after discussion with different bodies and representatives. We have also decided to contribute to building the isolation ward from the constituency development program."
Secretary at the provincial assembly Jeev Raj Budhathoki said the lawmakers have merely been urged to not come to the House as per the code of conduct.
"A decision had been taken requiring everyone including the ministers to not go out of Birendranagar now, and return to the House only after conducting PCR test if anyone goes out," Budhathoki said. "We had done PCR test of all the lawmakers before start of the House session. They have returned from a district where coronavirus has spread. We have asked them to return only after PCR test as it is risky to allow them in."
